Depends on where you are in HPP, call Oceanic Time Warner at 961-0443 and ask if it's available on your road. I'm up high in the park and I have digital cable with internet access. There's always Direct TV if cable hasn't reached you yet. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Does anyone now how far down the cable goes? We've bought a lot off of Makuu on 13th. Has it got that far?

After speaking with a board director, He said that the previous board had turned down a proposal offered by the cable company to extend cable to the coast.
If you are interested in cable and can't get it, contact your district director or any director and make your voice count. Show up at a board meeting.

What would have been the reason to turn down the offer to put cable into the rest of HPP?

That was my first question. Supposedly they didn't give a response to their decision.
If we don't want it to happen again then we need to contact our representative district directors and COMPLAIN.

If you give some names and phone numbers of the cabel company and members to ask at HPP I'll do some inquireies. I might be in Oregon now but I'll be there soon enough.

Cable is variable. In some cases it goes as far down as 19th. The cable company told me they decide where to go purely by housing density, so I don't know what the board has to do with it? I know somebody on Kaloli and 19th I think with cable, and somebody on Makuu and 21st has cable internet.
Anyway, Dish Network works great too, if you have a clear line of sight.

Yes..thats true about dish working great. Unfortuneately dish doesn't have internet access which is my problem. I wonder why "wireless internet" hasn't shown up here yet. They have it in Kona and Hilo. It seems like subdivisions south of hilo are the last places in the US to receive new technology. I believe it has very little to do with population, and has everything to do with politics. I currently live in Alaska which has a smaller population than Hawaii and has some of the most remote places on earth. But even these remote towns with a population of only a few hundred people have wireless internet and digital TV.

I work via the internet so when I was looking for property in Hawai'i, that was a major consideration. I did a bit of research and came up with two satellite internet providers, both of which were available in Hawai'i. After initial equipment purchase, the monthly fees were comparable or even less than cable or DSL. I eventually ended up getting a house with cable access so never got to actually try either of the services but here are the links in case you'd like to check them out. Directway at hns.getdway.com/index.html and Starband at www.starband.com/. As for the HPPOA BOD and cable in the park, please see my post of May 20th at hppneighbor.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=General&action=display&thread=1113484194Aloha, Lin

I've never had satellite or dsl before. What are the pros and cons to them? I'm used to cable for the INTERNET and really hope that by the time we get our house built on 13th the cable will be available.

I got this message from Rick today and it looks to be the latest on cable in the park. He sent it to me as he is having trouble getting logged on to this site.
I called Oceanic Time Warner (internet, phone and TV cable) today, September 28 2005, on 961-0443 and they told me that they currently only go as far as 20th St, but they are in the process of extending it all the way. I told them I live near the ocean and they said they expected, roughly, for it to be about a year before they reached me. If this is true, then it's good news!
regards, Rick Bakker
Thanks for the leg work Rick

Yes but they stoped at 19th and then skipped down to the ocean and started back up the hill. It goes to show that the money the rich have talks the same language here in Hawaii. I had to go with sattelite. I will change over when it gets to 13th. I wish they would have just kept going down the hill.
