I am moving to Paradise Park next month, and upon researching the sub division found some disturbing things about thefts and such. I come from an extremely safe area. Can anyone please be specific in recommending safer parts of HPP than others? Even down to which streets are the safest? Have I just read too much on the internet? I have several houses lined up to look at, and my main criteria is that it is completely safe.

Aloha,
There are very few places anywhere in the world that are 100% safe. The best way to stay safe is to take precautions & get to know your neighbors so you can watch out for each other. Good luck with your move.

You'd have better luck with "safe" by buying in a gated communiuty on the Kona side of the island.

HPP is a good neighborhood , But your moving to an island with an active volcano , tsunamis , earthquakes , hurricanes , a dozen weird tropical diseases , a dysfunctional government , soaring unemployment and a meth problem

Aloha - vickyd!
Sorry - there is no such thing as 100% SAFE!
BUT everything MUST be put in it's proper perspective.
HPP is a wonderful place to live - it is HUGE - as you "check out" the neighborhood - remember most lots are 1 acre, just because you can not "see" your neighbor doesn't mean you don't have any OR that they meet your criteria (whatever that might be)!
Hawaii - especially the "Big Island" is not as advertised - it's BETTER - but no "Don Ho" or "White Sandy Beach". Puna is as diverse as any "BIG" mainland city - but with ALOHA! The word "suburb" does not WORK.
YES - there are burglaries - BUT we have an aggressive - Neighborhood Watch - and knowing your neighbors is the best "PROTECTION" there is!
Good Luck in your search for "Paradise" - we found ours - right here in HPP!
